POSITION                                       General Presbyter

JOB SUMMARY 
To motivate and equip the Presbytery to do its work. To provide expertise and council in the field of Christian Education. To articulate the vision, mission, and priorities of Huntingdon Presbytery. To be a resource to the leadership of Council, Committee on Ministry, and the Umbrella Teams.


ACCOUNTABILITY

  1.  The General Presbyter shall be accountable to the Presbytery through  the Personnel Committee.
  2.  The Council will remain available for reflection and advice on the performance of the General Presbyter.

RELATIONSHIPS                       
The General Presbyter will supervise the Support Staff, the Huntingdon/Northumberland Resource Center personnel and the Mission Treasurer. The General Presbyter will maintain working relationships with Staff, Committee and Task Group Chairs, Stated Clerk, Umbrella Team facilitators, Churches, Pastors, and members and officers of the Presbytery and its Council. The General Presbyter will maintain appropriate relationships with other Presbytery, the Synod and the General Assembly staffs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Know, understand, and articulate the Presbytery of Huntingdon's vision, mission and priorities, to Council, Umbrella Teams, Working Task Groups and Committees, as well as to ministers, elders and churches, and related governing bodies.
  2. Interpret decisions and policies of the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly to the Presbytery and general public.
  3. Spokesperson for the Presbytery of Huntingdon, to the larger church and ecumenically.
  4. Guide the Council to coordinate and communicate the ministry and mission of the Presbytery between Umbrella Teams.
  5. Serve as an ex-officio member of Council without vote.
  6. Serve as a resource advisor to the Committee on Ministry.
  7. Be available to counsel with ministers and lay leadership with regards to matters of the Presbytery and the Church.
  8. Guide the Leadership Umbrella Team to develop a list of resources and consultants in varied fields for requested assistance by churches in the area of Christian Education.
  9. Arrange workshops and make connections between/among congregations, pastors, elders and others, with the assistance of the Leadership Umbrella Team.
  10. In cooperation with Working Task Groups, plan, publicize and administer Presbytery program events each year in the areas of discipleship, development, mission, stewardship and Christian Education.
  11. Work with the appropriate leadership for the implementation of Presbytery decisions and matters of strategy, program and resources, and assign appropriate staff support for Presbytery.
  12. Serve as an ex-officio member, without vote, on the Committee responsible for Personnel.
  13. Implement the Church-wide plan for equal employment opportunity, and the Presbytery's affirmative action program.
  14. Coordinate, equip and resource the Umbrella Teams (but not be the Chair).
  15. Implement a strategy for the visitation of Churches and Pastors for mutual fellowship, and to ascertain Christian Education and other congregational needs.
  16. Supervise the Staff of the Presbytery in the implementation of Presbytery policies and decisions.
  17. Approve vouchers for expenses as presented by the Stated Clerk

  2. Have organizational, training and motivational skills in the area of Christian Education.
  3. Know basic resources (both human, as well as written) to assist churches seeking healthy Christian Education experiences.
  4. Know and understand the attributes of healthy churches with strong ministries, including Christian Education.
  5. Understand and appreciate the challenges and contributions of small churches.
  6. Have experience with and be supportive of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and its governing bodies.

EVALUATION
The Personnel Committee, in consultation with the Leadership of the Presbytery, shall conduct an annual review of the General Presbyter.
